Tripoli, Lebanon — As part of the government's efforts to support development projects in Tripoli, the Minister of Economy and Trade, Dr. Amer Bisat, visited the Rashid Karami International Fair and met with the Chairman of the Tripoli Special Economic Zone (TSEZ), Dr. Hassan Dannawi, and members of the Zone's administrative body. The meeting lasted approximately one hour and focused on strengthening the role of key development institutions in the city.
Following the meeting, Minister Bisat stated that the appointment of Dr. Hassan Dannawi is an achievement in itself given his competence, and that the appointment of Dr. Hani Al-Shaarani to lead the International Fair also represents a new start for two central institutions in North Lebanon. He emphasized that the Rashid Karami International Fair is a cultural landmark not only for Tripoli but for all Lebanon, and that efforts will be made to reactivate it through restoration works and modern asset management within a clear strategic plan.
Regarding the Special Economic Zone, Minister Bisat described it as the economic heart of the North and noted that efforts are underway to activate its logistics center and introduce legal and institutional reforms to enable its effective launch.
For his part, Dr. Dannawi thanked the Minister for his visit and support, and also expressed appreciation to Dr. Hani Al-Shaarani for hosting the meeting at the Fair. He highlighted that Tripoli has significant potential and that the team is working to translate existing plans into concrete projects. He added that the coming April is expected to mark the launch of efforts to attract private sector investment into the logistics zone next to Tripoli Port, following the removal of administrative and financial obstacles, in line with commitments made by the President of the Republic, the Prime Minister, and the Minister of Economy.
The discussions reaffirmed the importance of coordinated efforts to support economic revitalization and investment in Tripoli and the North.
